Another Teen Startup Weekend is being planned for Fall 2014
Click here for more information and to get on the mailing list.

What is a Startup Weekend? Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered community leaders, and entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. The non-profit organization is headquartered out of Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend Organizers and Facilitators can be found in hundreds of cities around the world. Startup Weekends consist of weekend-long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable.

Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday teams focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practicing LEAN Startup Methodologies and building a minimal viable product. On Sunday afternoon teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experts.

How will the Teen Startup Weekend be different? The Teen Startup Weekend will have essentially the same structure as the traditional Startup Weekend, however, there will be additional coaches and mentors to guide students. Hours will be shorter so students don't get wiped out over the weekend. Finally, there will be "brief" education sessions to help the students on things such as Customer Validation, Business Models, Marketing and more elements of putting a business together.

Do participants need to have business experience? Absolutely not. Teen Startup Weekend is open to any teenage student who is creative, inquisitive, or has a general interest in entrepreneurship. In fact, the more diverse the backgrounds of participants the better the experience for everyone.

Event Organization: This event is being produced by student entrepreneurs for student entrepreneurs. These student entrepreneurs are supported by an array of supporters that includes teachers form participating schools, local entrepreneurs and other vetted mentors and coaches. Additionally, the organizers of the two recent New Mexico Startup Weekends, Santa Fe and Albuquerque, will be assisting these student entrepreneurs in organizing and running this event.
