Do the teens need to present business ideas?

No, the teens can participate by joining others who present their business ideas.

Do they need to know other participants?

No, the teams form organically around the business ideas so even if two participants know each other they may be interested in different business ideas.

Do the teens need business experience?

No, there will be plenty of coaches and mentors to assist them.

I have a student who would like to attend but doesn’t like public speaking?

As with any business, not everyone will be able or required to present publicly. Most of the time is spent in small groups where public speaking is not required.

Starting a business is a lot of work, what can get done over a weekend?

Surprisingly, a lot! Ultimately, this should be a fun event and the participants will get to know others who have similar interests and learn what it takes to start a business.

My student has never started a business how will they know what to do?

The participants will use the model canvas as a template for their activities. Additionally, there will be coaches from the local startup and business community available to assist the teams along the way.

How will safety be ensured?

There will be coaches and volunteers at the weekend at all times to ensure safety; many of these volunteers are teachers at area high schools. Additionally, each volunteer and coach will undergo a background check to ensure safety of the teens involved.

How much does it cost?

The cost is $39.95 for the weekend that includes 7 meals, snacks, soda and water. In addition, office supplies and materials will be provided for the teams to work on their business ideas. Register at: teenstartupweekend.eventbrite.com

Will there be prizes?

Yes, The winning team will get a Trademark Package (Value: $2,000) from Leverage Legal Group and a professionally produced Video Pitch from WESST Enterprises for their business idea. Second and Third Place teams will also get a professionally produced Video Pitch from WESST. There will be additional prizes for individuals and teams that will be announced at the event.
